DC Mixtape #3 - Brendan

So Brendan's not in a band or anything, but he's a good friend of Dead Chemists and an overall coolgai. He also has a sweet taste in music so he's submitted this rad mixtape. He has a blog full of interesting things and pictures of Haruki Murakami's bedroom, check it here.

As we all know, mixtapes are awesome. If anyone wants to submit one, by all means please do, send em in to deadchemists@gmail.com. Dead Chemists can make you internet famous (maybe).

DC Mixtape #2 - Thom (Kerouac)

Time for our next guest mixtape. This comes from Thom Denson, singer in the frankly excellent Kerouac. They've been around for years and have really put the graft in and cemented themselves as one of the most highly regarded bands in the UK. Their live show is peerless and if you ever have the chance to check them out I cannot recommend it highly enough, dark and emotive hardcore with a tempestuous sounds of detuned guitars and adolescent anguish. You can listen to all of their previous releases, including splits with Pariso and The Long Haul, on their Bandcamp here. Also you can hear Thom doing some pretty cool backing vocals on Mothbites' Howling Forever, which you can listen to below.

His mixtapes full of the ill and the chill, go bop your head. That Bobby Womack track is so good.

OFF! - Hevy 2011, a set on Flickr.
Another little photoset from Dead Chemists' time at Hevy. OFF! were without doubt one of the best bands there, blazing fast punk rock from a group of individuals whose credentials outweigh pretty much anyone elses. Needless to say, Keith Morris is a hero.

DC Mixtape #1 - Charlie (Gnarwolves)

So here's a new feature we're gonna be introducing. Cool people, members of bands, record label types, you get the picture, will be invited to submit a nice little mixtape of songs that they're currently rocking out to. Anyone that's interested, please feel free to get in touch at deadchemists[at]gmail[dot]com.

First up is Charlie from Gnarwolves. If you haven't heard their amazing debut release Fun Club then you should stop what you're doing and click here because it's one of the best releases of the year so far. Good time gruff pop punk, the 3 piece features members of the late great Kasa and Rasputin (for a small piece of Dead Chemists history, Rasputin were the first band Dead Chemists Promotions ever put on. The show was...entertaining to say the least. The owner's of the pub didn't seem to like it.)

Anyway, the band are excellent and will be touring the UK from the 13th to the 23rd of April, so go check em out, have a dance and drink a beer or two. They've got a new release coming out this year and you can buy Fun Club on tape via the most excellent Brain Ache Records here. YEW!

Hang The Bastard - Hevy 2011, a set on Flickr.
Hang The Bastard are easily one of our favourite bands here at Dead Chemists, and their set at Hevy cemented our belief that this band can only get bigger and better.

We also had a chance to chat to Chris and Tom backstage, we had an interview all written up but I spilt Dr Pepper on it because I'm a dick. However, most of the conversation was about traffic, new musical projects (check out Sectarian Violence - members of HTB, Coke Bust and loads of other rad bands) and the joys of Pantera.

Hang The Bastard are also gonna be playing at our mega show in July along with Weekend Nachos, Witch Cult, Pariso and so many other sick bands. Details for said show can be found HERE.

Strife - Hevy 2011, a set on Flickr.

Strife are one of the true vanguards of the mid 90's straight edge movement, and they still put on one of the best shows going. As well as being lovely people they have a genuine belief in the importance of performance and whenever a lead singer voluntarily spends most of the set in the crowd you know they care about their interaction with the fans.
